Le Swann, a literary hotel in Paris inspired by Marcel Proust
Some hotels tell the story of a city; others, of an era. The Swann tells the story of a work—that of Marcel Proust.

Rediscover "In Search of Lost Time" with Marcel Proust
It is located in the historically Proustian neighborhood of Plaine Monceau and Saint-Augustin, within a 19th-century Haussmann-style building. Awarded a prize at the 1898 World’s Fair, this building served as a refuge for writers long before it became the very first literary hotel entirely dedicated to Marcel Proust.
From the moment you enter, the tone is set: manuscripts, first editions, works of art, photographs, and haute couture pieces come together in a thoughtful exhibition curated by Jacques Letertre, a voracious reader and passionate collector.
Each of the 81 rooms is named after a character or artist dear to Proust, from Oriane de Guermantes to Anna de Noailles, from the Baron de Charlus to Giotto. All are spread across six floors dedicated to the mythical settings of the Parisian writer’s work: Combray, Balbec, the Verdurins’ salon, the Faubourg Saint-Germain, and Venice. On each landing, selected quotes invite visitors to read, even in the bathrooms where excerpts from letters appear on the glass walls. The decor, designed by architect Aude Bruguière, blends Parisian elegance with Proustian dreaminess.
The final chapter of this literary immersion: the Suichuka spa, tucked away in the heart of the hotel. Inspired by an iconic passage from In Search of Lost Time, in which Proust compares involuntary memory to a Japanese game of paper boats unfolding on water, this intimate spa evokes Japan with great delicacy. A Zen garden, balneotherapy, a Vital Dôme infrared sauna, a fitness room equipped with a solid ash Waterrower… An experience that feels like a contemporary meditation on time regained (and trust us, it feels good to know how to take your time.)
